INTRODUCING RICHIE ROSS

Hey everyone, my name is Richie Ross and I have three passions in life …… firstly and the most important thing to me, my doggies. I have five of them, all rescue, all different breeds and ages and they are literally my world… If you see me walking round a pet rescue centre, please feel free to drag me away – I can’t be trusted!

Second is my job, I’m really lucky to have worked in the theatre / entertainment sector since leaving school and I still love it as much as I did as a 16 year old, stepping onto the ladder of life. In those days I was earning £10 a week, working 70 hours a week, staying out late til 3am…… Some of those things have changed now. I’ll let you be the judge of which ones!

Thirdly, and more relevant perhaps is radio ! I used to listen late at night to BRMB under the duvet when I was a kid, I went to the Radio 1 roadshows when we lived in Weymouth and I had a mahoosive record collection by the time I reached my teens. Music has literally always been my life (cue track from Barry Manilow…).

The advent of the internet and online streaming re-ignited my love of radio nearly 15 years ago and since then I’ve been part of some great stations all over the UK, and  now I’m here in Suffolk!

I hope you enjoy listening to my music choice – it’s old school, a bit like me, but they were after all, the best decades for some great tunes!

ON THE SPOT

What’s your favourite childhood memory?

Remember I said I had a mahoosive record collection? Well on a Friday after school, I turned our garage at home into a nightclub. Only had one record player and a cassette tape player, and I used to paint colour circles onto cardboard boxes I’d painted black to look like lights, but it was my nightclub !

If you could see any artiste in concert, living or dead, who would you choose?

Without a doubt, Tina Turner. I never appeciated her journey in life when she hit the charts in the early 80s. It was only later on, after the biographical film came out, I really understood the songs she sang and how powerful the lyrics were. I had the chance to see her back in the late 80s but I wasn’t really interested in her enough to make it a wishlist concert. I really really regret it now.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I like to run radio stations. I like to be part of the community. Welcome to Suffolk Sound!

Prefer starter and main course or main course and dessert?

My perfect meal would be dessert as a starter, dessert as a main course, followed by …. dessert ! …. If you’re passing Greggs, its always doughnuts over sausage rolls !

Ant or Dec?

Oooo difficult one…. Ant makes me laugh more…. Dec is probably more talented….. Thank God you never asked me to choose between The Krankies!

Should pineapple ever be used on pizza?

I don’ really eat fruit – but if pineapple on pizza counts as one of your five a day, crack on !
