About Us

Located at Beach Street, Felixstowe, Suffolk Sound went on air July 2023 and is firmly embedded into the community with Suffolk at the very heart of everything we do!

We are a not-for-profit organisation, providing media access to local news, issues and interests. Our mission statement is: “To promote active community involvement in regeneration and social inclusion and to enhance diversity and quality across Suffolk through the use of community radio as a tool for cohesion, expression and skills development.”

Suffolk Sound engages with members of our community who have an interest in radio presentation skills and above all are passionate about where they live. Volunteers receive training in media skills by industry professionals. Our rosta of presenters include some very familiar voices from regional BBC radio stations and beyond.

Part of our ethos is to give a voice and platform to support local charities and organisations. To date we have run successful campaigns for Brave Futures and Cancer Support in Suffolk. In 2024 we are also the nominated media partner for the Operation Santa Appeal.

We broadcast online, on your mobile devices and on your smart speaker 24 hours a day with a mix of shows and a music policy based on chart hits from the 70’s to the early 2000’s. In the evenings you’ll hear more specialist shows from around the UK. We like to think that whenever you tune in, you’ll hear a favourite song from the last 4 decades of hit music!

Early in 2024, co-founders Richie Ross and Rob Dunger were approached by some influential business angels who had seen the rapid rise of Suffolk Sound with a proposal to offer investment and business support. A new Community Interest Company was formed meaning all profits would be re-invested back into the station and Rob and Richie welcomed Scott Russell, Steve Flory, Jenna Ackerley and Sarah Smy to the management team.

To date we broadcast to some 22,000 people a month plus an additional 6,000 through our ‘listen again’ option.
